I've been writing this blog since 2005. I have had a number of content specific blogs in the past, but decided in 2013 to consolidate them all back into PJMixer. You'll find photo projects, movie reviews, new music and general thoughts about my life. Evening garage grumpiness
I heard someone in the garage but couldn't see them until they came out and mumbled something to me. I said I liked the lighting of their garage in the stormy evening and asked if it was ok [to take the photograph]. They mumbled something a few more times, started the car and closed the door !

Tuned in for race #2 - don't press that blue button !
My company became the primary sponsor for the TruSpeed WC Porsche team this year. I took a number of customers to race #1 on Saturday, then returned Sunday for race #2 with my family. The team were fantastic hosts and the team manager loaned one of the team radios to my son for the race !

George
I was taking a shot of one of Toronto's oldest restaurants, Tom Jones Steak House, when a gentleman behind me asked what I was doing. I said I've always liked the old building and I was sad to see there are such few places left in Toronto these days. He told me that it was actually his restaurant - he's owned it for almost 50 years. We talked a little about making a hobby your business (as a contemplate making more moves towards professional photography) and he said the restaurant is a big hobby ! George kindly agreed to have a few shots taken in front of his beautiful old landmark.

Spring deck through the ad-hoc doggy door
Spring deck through the ad-hoc doggy door - #126/365, originally uploaded by PJMixer.
Tough pick on photo of the day today. I chose this one for a few reasons. A common approach to composition is framing using some natural structure. I don't use this technique very often and I'm quite pleased with this image, decent contrasting geometry, pushing the limits on lighting range and nice dabs of vibrant colour.

Peter
On the way to a customer meeting I made a little detour to grab a few shots and noticed a gentleman taking some architectural shots of Commerce Court. I introduced myself and he told me a little about his Bronica medium format camera and his photography. Peter is a fellow Englishman and he's been in Canada 10 years and comes from Brighton. He took a shot of me with Commerce Court in the background and thought it would be a nice edition to his project where he takes 4 photographs in a quad pattern.
Peter is #90 in my 100 strangers project.

YDS panorama (Sansung test)
Via Flickr:
I've been having lots of trouble with Bell Mobility coverage on my Blackberry from my office over the last 6 months. My corporate office sent my a Samsung Galaxy S Android smartphone today for a comparative wireless reception test (it was much better). So a took a few minutes to play with the panorama camera features before heading home. I took quite a few shots, but most suffered from poor focus in the centre of the shot or I rushed the composition while fumbling with my umbrella. This one had a decent compromise of a composition that captured the majority of Yonge Dundas Square with acceptable sharpness (just). I applied a little camera distortion correction in Photoshop and also boosted the contrast and sharpness. The camera had some good manual controls, but most controls were shut off shooting in panorama mode. The camera software did a nice job helping you align your next shot with frame and direction indicators.
