Wow, it's been over a month since my last post. Sorry 'bout that, been on hols and all.
This article in the Post this morning caught my attention as it's a topic of conversation that typically comes up when talking with people about the power of the internet and the accuracy of its content.
The Big Wikiquestion - the sentence that helped sum this up best was - But the best answer to the Big Wikiquestion might be "Trustworthy compared to what?"
I've been writing this blog since 2005. I have had a number of content specific blogs in the past, but decided in 2013 to consolidate them all back into PJMixer. You'll find photo projects, movie reviews, new music and general thoughts about my life. The IP identifier tool is pretty cool, and that article itself makes some pretty good points. The problem that I see with the IP identifier tool is that it is not really that specific - ie can I make Starbucks look bad by editing their Wiki writeup favorably from inside one of their stores? Surely after the wave of 'interesting edits' identified by Wired et al. we will see a bunch of false/misleading edits as well, and the tool and its output will become less useful again. It would be nice if we could have the tool without the watchdog, but I guess that's just naive....
